How to Set Up Ads in Flightcast
1. Add ad slots to an episode first 0:00
- Before creating any campaigns, open an episode and add ad slots.
- Go to an episode, click Ad slots at the top, then click Add slot on the right.
- Choose the slot type:
- Pre-roll = plays before the episode
- Mid-roll = plays during the episode
- Post-roll = plays after the episode
- Choose what the slot can contain:
- Dynamic ads = your campaign ads, usually sponsor reads you pre-recorded
- Programmatic ads = ads Flightcast fills automatically, similar to AdSense
- Both = allow either type

- Once an ad slot exists, go to Ads in the left sidebar.
- Click Create in the top right.
- Enter a campaign name.
- Create a matching advertiser record.

- Set the campaign’s delivery goal:
- number of downloads/impressions to deliver
- a deadline date by which they must be delivered
- Click Create campaign
3. Configure campaign targeting and delivery settings 1:44
- New campaigns start in Draft status.
- In the campaign settings, configure:
- Target downloads / impressions
- Priority
- Geo targeting (for example, only the United States)
- Device targeting (for example, only iPhones)
- Podcast targeting if you have multiple shows
- Episode exclusions if you want to avoid specific episodes
- Save your changes when finished
4. Upload the ad creative 2:38
- In the right-side ad section, click Create your first ad.
- Give the ad a title.
- Choose the ad placement type:
- Pre-roll
- Mid-roll
- Post-roll
- Note: campaigns can currently have one ad of each type.
- Optionally add pixel tracking URLs.
- Choose whether the ad is:
- Audio — plays everywhere audio is supported
- Video — only shows in video-supported players, with still-image ad behavior in some players
- Upload the ad file (for example, an MP3 for audio)
- If needed, create different versions for different regions or targeting needs
5. Activate the campaign so it can run 3:47
- After the campaign and ad are ready, it is still in Draft.
- Open the basic campaign info.
- Change the status from Draft to Active.
- Click Save changes.
- Once active, the campaign can begin serving into matching ad slots
6. Understand pacing so delivery stays on schedule 4:03
- Flightcast campaigns try to stay on pace.
- Pacing means delivering impressions evenly over time so the campaign hits its goal by the deadline.
- Example:
- 50,000 impressions due by July 31
- Flightcast spreads delivery across the time period instead of serving everything immediately
- This prevents one campaign from using up all impressions too quickly
7. Set default ad slots for new episodes if you want automation 4:36
- If you do not want to add ad slots manually to every episode, set default ad slots at the podcast level.
- Go to Podcast in the left sidebar.
- Scroll down to Default ad slots and edit them.
- You can enable default:
- Pre-roll
- Post-roll
- Choose how many slots to add and whether they are dynamic or programmatic.
- From then on, every new episode will inherit those default ad slots
