What is this?

Apple now supports video. You can enable it for any podcast in Flightcast, and we’ll automatically start uploading your video for all existing episodes.

How is Video on Apple Podcasts different from HLS/RSS video?

It uses the same underlying technology. The main difference is that Apple requires an account connection, while RSS video does not.

Should I enable video on Apple?

It is up to you. There are pros and cons, but Apple is currently pushing video. Our CEO Rox recorded a short video about it. Click your team name in the bottom-left corner, then click Video, and scroll to the bottom.

What does Video on Apple Podcasts cost?

There are no extra hosting or bandwidth charges. For now, video streams count just like downloads, so they go against your usual download cap.

What does HLS mean?

HLS stands for HTTP Live Streaming. It is what most modern video platforms use, including YouTube.

It lets viewers stream different quality levels depending on their internet speed. Unlike a manual quality picker, it stays on Auto and chooses the best option automatically.

Does it support 4K?

Yes, 4K is supported from day one.

How will analytics be displayed?

Video streams are counted just like downloads for now, so they count toward your normal download cap. We do not have dedicated video graphs yet, but we will soon.

Can I see who is watching vs listening?

Not yet, but soon. We are still making sure the experience looks and feels good before adding the new graphs.

How do I set this up?

In the top-left, select your podcast. Then go to Podcast in the left sidebar, click Integrations, and follow the steps for Video on Apple Podcasts.

Do I need to re-process or re-upload my old episodes?

No. We already handled that. Just turn on video and it will start working right away.

Will I lose Apple reviews or data?

No.

Where is Video on Apple Podcasts supported?

Apple’s HLS video support is currently available on iPhone, iPad, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Podcasts on the web.
